24 lakh people have income above Rs 10 lakh but 25 lakh cars bought every year

India has just 24.4 lakh taxpayers who declared an annual income of over Rs 10 lakh yet 25 lakh new cars, including 35,000 luxury cars, are being bought every year for last five years, a top official said.  A nation of over 125 crore people had only 3.65 crore individuals filing their tax returns in the assessment year 2014-15, the official said alluding to a huge number of individuals being outside the tax net.  "Of the 3.65 crore individuals (filing returns in assessment year 2014-15), there were only 5.5 lakh people who paid income tax of more than Rs 5 lakh and accounted for 57 per cent of the total tax kitty. This essentially means that only 1.5 per cent of those filing tax returns (3.65 crore) are contributing to 57 per cent of tax kitty," the official said.  A complete PC experience with Windows laptops. US Fed hikes key interest rate by 0.25%

US Fed hikes key interest rate by 0.25% The US Federal Reserve on Wednesday increased its key interest rate by 25 basis points in the first rate hike in 2016 and just the second in a decade. The first was in December 2015. The Fed also released a new forecast on Wednesday and it projects US economic growth this year to be 1.9 per cent and next year to be 2.1 per cent, CNNMoney reported. Fed officials raised rates by 0.25 percentage points to a range of 0.50 per cent and 0.75 per cent. "Job gains have been solid in recent months and the unemployment rate has declined," the Federal Reserve said in a statement. The Fed slashed rates to zero in 2008 in the midst of the financial crisis and kept it there during the Great Recession and beyond. The rate increase indicate that the US economy no longer needs the Fed's crutches and consumers and businesses can afford to pay more to borrow. America has added jobs for 74 consecutive months and the country's unemployment rate ha

Four top tips for becoming lucky:

*Why some people have all the Luck ?* By Professor Richard  Wiseman, University of Hertfordshire. Why do some people get all the luck while others never get the breaks they deserve? A psychologist says he has discovered the answer. Ten years ago, I set out to examine luck. I wanted to know why some people are always in the right place at the right time, while others consistently experience ill fortune. I placed advertisements in national newspapers asking for people who felt consistently lucky or unlucky to contact me. Hundreds of extraordinary men & women volunteered for my research & over the years, I have interviewed them, monitored their lives & had them take part in experiments. I carried out a simple experiment to discover whether this was due to differences in their ability to spot such opportunities. I gave both lucky and unlucky people a newspaper, and asked them to look through it & tell me how many photographs were inside. I had secretly placed a

Crorepati formula: Tips to make Rs 1 crore in stocks in the quickest time

NEW DELHI:  How does one become a crorepati? It's a question that remains dominant in the lives of almost all of us.  Many of us struggle throughout our lives to ensure that we can become one, and until and unless one is a big corporate honcho or high-profile businessman, such dreams remain a dream for the ordinary  middle class Indian .  That dream car, the dream house and the dream retirement elude us all, but they shouldn't. The answer to those dreams lies in the  equity market . To be more specific, the answer lies in systematic investment plans (SIPs) of equity mutual funds.  "If a retail investor invests in a diversified equity fund through a systematic investment plan over the long term, she/he can become a crorepati. For example, Rs 20,000 invested through a monthly SIP for about 15 years can grow to over Rs 1 crore, if you assume a rate of return of 12 per cent," Nimesh Shah, MD & CEO, ICICI Prudential AMC, said in an interview with ETMarkets.com.
