Prevention is better than cure – for your Health and Wealth
Most of us visit our doctor generally when we fall sick. Very few of us visit a doctor to stay healthy. For example, how many of us have asked our doctor of ways to prevent monsoon related illnesses? While we all agree that prevention is better than cure, the challenge is that no one acts on it diligently. The latter is possible only if we follow a health routine like exercise, nutritious diet, good sleep, lower stress levels, and regular health check-ups, among others. Leading a healthy lifestyle has many potential long term benefits like higher motivation levels, positivity, quick thinking, endurance as well as improved performance @ work.
Having said that, health and wealth are two sides of the same coin as both need meticulous planning and none can be neglected. Just like doctors take care of our health, financial advisors or planners help to take care of our wealth. The latter help us to plan for our financial goals like buying a house, meeting the education expenses of our children, building a sizeable corpus for our retirement, among others. Like doctors, they guide us to save and invest systematically by starting to invest at an early age as well as regularly so that we have adequate time to meet our financial goals.
On July 1, as we celebrate National Doctor’s Day, let us pledge to meet our doctors for prevention rather than a cure by leading a healthy lifestyle. At the same time, let’s plan equally well for our long term prosperity by meticulously adhering to the advice of financial advisors or our wealth doctors !
In India, July 1 is celebrated as National Doctors’ Day to honour the legendary physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. He was born on July 1, 1882 and died on the same date in 1962 at the age of 80. Dr Roy was honoured with the country’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna on February 4, 1961. National Doctor’s Day is celebrated to emphasise the value of doctors in our lives and to offer them our respects by commemorating one of their greatest representatives. India has shown remarkable improvements in the medical field and July 1 pays a perfect tribute to all doctors who have made relentless efforts towards achieving this goal irrespective of the odds.
